Dorchester School District Four’s September Board Meeting, held Tuesday, September 16, opened to a full house as Superintendent Jeffrey Beckwith and Board Chair Phyllis Hughes recognized outstanding student achievement across the district.

The evening began with a celebration of students from Woodland Middle School and Woodland High School who excelled on recent state assessments. Students were honored for earning perfect scores on exams including SC Ready, English II End-of-Course (EOC), U.S. History EOC, Algebra I EOC, Biology EOC, and AP History. Several students were recognized for perfect scores on multiple assessments, with one standout student, Kamiah Richardson, commended for achieving perfect scores on three separate exams.

During the recognitions, Superintendent Beckwith emphasized his continued desire for academics to be celebrated just as widely as the district’s strong athletics, clubs, and organizations. He noted that student success in the classroom deserves the same level of pride and recognition as success on the field, stage, or in extracurricular pursuits.

Following the student recognitions, Beckwith and Hughes issued an honorary proclamation in support of National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, observed September 15–19, 2025. The proclamation highlighted the district’s commitment to promoting adult education opportunities and increasing literacy among Dorchester County residents. Beckwith and Hughes encouraged the community to work together in strengthening educational access and resources for adults, underscoring the importance of lifelong learning.

The combination of student excellence and community engagement set a positive tone for the remainder of the board meeting, reflecting the district’s focus on both academic achievement and educational growth for all ages.
